ICBC and BC Transplant celebrate major milestone

April 02, 2026

Working together to increase organ donor registrations in British Columbia

ICBC is proud to celebrate a decade of collaboration with BC Transplant to increase organ donor registrations in this province. Since employees at our driver licensing offices first began speaking with customers about organ donation in 2016, more than 395,000 ICBC customers have registered their decision.

“What started off as a small pilot project in a few driver licensing offices ten years ago has grown into a province-wide effort to save lives,” said Michele Bryan, ICBC’s director of driver licensing customer services. “We want to keep the momentum going and continue making it easy for our customers to register their decision on organ donation.”

Register your decision any time you access driver licensing services

Registering to be an organ donor can be done online in less than two minutes at registeryourdecision.ca. ICBC customers accessing driver licensing services will find the QR code in our offices and a link to the registry in our appointment reminder emails. We’ve also recently added the QR code to the card carriers for B.C. driver’s licences, BC Services and BC Identification cards so customers can scan in the comfort of their own homes when they receive their cards in the mail.

“We value our decade long partnership with ICBC and because of your team effort, there are now more than 1.6 million people in BC’s Organ Donor Registry,” said Eric Lun, executive director at BC Transplant. “Registering as an organ donor saves lives and because of this selfless decision, we now have more than 6,600 transplant recipients receiving care across the province.”

A record-breaking 575 people in British Columbia received the gift of life in 2025, thanks to the incredible generosity of 232 organ donors, including 146 deceased donors and their families and 86 living donors.

Right now, there are more than 600 people in B.C. waiting for an organ transplant. As April marks Organ Donation Awareness Month, we encourage customers to continue registering their decision and share their wishes with their family.
