Autoplan Insurance
Changes for customers who lease their vehicles
In collaboration with the Government of British Columbia, we’re introducing some changes that will make it easier for customers who lease their vehicles (also known as lessees) to change and renew their Autoplan insurance.
What’s new for lessees
If you lease your vehicle and your Autoplan insurance policy’s effective date is January 6, 2025 or later, you can now:
Change your policy without needing to get approval from your leasing company
Renew your policy online, as long as you meet other eligibility criteria
Visit any Autoplan broker for your insurance transactions
Receive any ICBC-issued premium rebates or refunds without needing an endorsement from your leasing company
These changes will also reduce complexity for brokers and leasing companies, making an easier experience for everyone.
What’s staying the same
Your leasing company remains the vehicle owner and is the only party that can register, sell or transfer the vehicle.
If your policy’s effective date is before January 6, 2025, the changes above do not apply to you at this time; however, they will apply to policies you purchase or renew for your leased vehicle after that date.
