ICBC services during Canada Post disruption

With the disruption in Canada Post mail services, we are encouraging customers to consider the options available to communicate with us and access ICBC services.

Driver licensing

Customers may experience delays receiving photo cards (including B.C. driver’s licences, BC Identification Cards or BC Services Cards) during the Canada Post service disruption. However, when you obtain or renew your B.C. driver’s licence, you will be issued an interim driver’s licence (paper licence) that will be valid for 90 days.

This is an example of an interim driver licence that is a valid driving licence.

If the postal disruption keeps us from mailing cards, we can issue you another interim driver’s licence that would be valid for an additional 90 days. For any questions about the cards we issue, please contact ICBC Driver Licensing at 1-800-950-1498.

Claims payments and insurance refunds

We are encouraging all customers to sign up for direct deposit to ensure you receive all the payments you're entitled to. This will be the fastest way to obtain your payments while the postal disruption continues.

Speak with your claims representative about receiving claim payments during the Canada Post service disruption if you have not yet signed up for direct deposit.

Once you sign up for direct deposit, you will receive insurance refunds electronically.

Policy renewals and email insurance renewal reminders

Renewal reminders will not be sent to customers by mail during the postal service disruption. We urge you to check your insurance policy to make sure you visit your broker before the policy’s expiry date.

You also have the option of signing up for insurance renewal reminders via email.

You can renew an ICBC insurance policy as early as 44 days before it expires, whether over the phone, in person or online.

If you haven’t renewed online before, and you haven’t previously used the BC Services Card app or Interac® verification service to sign into another online service, we recommend setting up your preferred sign-in option at least a few days before you start your renewal.
