Driver licensing
Take the online knowledge test
Starting June 9, 2026, you can take the passenger vehicle and motorcycle knowledge tests online. This is the first step toward getting your licence.
Choosing between the online and in-person knowledge test
You can take your knowledge test online or in person at a driver licensing office.
We’ve provided some information below to help you decide which test option is right for you.
Requirements for taking the online knowledge test
Ready to take the test?
You have up to 72 hours after registration to start the online knowledge test.
You have 45 minutes to complete the test in a single session.
Now that the online knowledge test is available, we’re finalizing some enhancements to improve your experience. Thank you for your patience.
Your next step: getting your licence
Don't forget!
Passing the knowledge test online does not mean you are licensed or legally allowed to drive.
After you pass the test, you’ll need to visit a driver licensing office to get your licence. Depending on the office, you may need to book a 10-minute appointment.
Bring the following to your appointment:
Two pieces of accepted ID, including the same primary ID you used to register for the online knowledge test.
If you’re under 19, a signed copy of the parent/guardian consent form with the original signature. Your parent or guardian can also sign the form at your appointment.
Payment for the licence fee. This is different from the $15 test fee you already paid online.
Any corrective lenses for your vision screening test (if applicable).
Payment for any debt you may owe to ICBC or the provincial government (if applicable).
A printed or digital copy of the email confirming you passed the online knowledge test.
Your test results are valid for one year. The sooner you visit a driver licensing office, the sooner you can get your licence and start driving.
