ICBC temporarily shares some claim centres with health authorities

To help in B.C.’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have already worked with various health authorities to provide them space at our Capilano, Courtenay, Duncan and Trail claim centres. Earlier this month, we added our Victoria (Dunedin) claim centre to help Island Health.
Across the province, health authorities initially set up COVID-19 testing sites in accessible, open spaces, such as parking lots outside care facilities, major parks and community centres. Finding a site that would be accessible and would keep healthcare workers protected from the elements, especially during the cold winter months, was a challenge. That’s where our claim centres turned out to be a perfect match.
If you’ve had the experience of driving into an ICBC claim centre ‘tube’ to get your car assessed after a crash, these ‘tubes’ are what have been temporarily turned into drive-through COVID-19 testing locations.
At them, healthcare workers and patients alike appreciate the larger spaces and protection from winter weather. And as we collectively navigate the next stage of the pandemic, we’re doing what we can to help.
In collaboration with the various health authorities, the testing process has been set up with your health and safety in mind. Our offices (except at Capilano) will still be open to meet ICBC customers with appointments. We’ve taken a number of measures to keep you and our employees safe – such as limiting appointments to urgent transactions only, requesting that all customers wear a mask, and ensuring healthcare workers and patients occupy completely separate areas of the buildings, without any interaction or sharing of common spaces with ICBC employees and customers.
We will continue to temporarily conduct road tests from the Victoria (Dunedin) claim centre, with clear signage in place to direct customers where they need to go for a road test. And we will continue to do what we can to help support our communities and the health authorities across the province.
