You have a Class 7L licence
What's changing in the future
The upcoming changes vary depending on how old you are when they take effect on October 19, 2026:
What’s staying the same
You’re still subject to the following Class 7L restrictions:
Driving with a qualified supervisor who is over 25 and holds a valid Class 1–5 licence. They must sit beside you in the front passenger seat.
Effective October 19, 2026, the minimum age of your supervisor lowers to 22 years old.
The supervisor must have their own Class 5 licence (without the restriction requiring zero blood alcohol and zero blood drug content while driving) and be legally able to drive.
Only one passenger at a time, not including your supervisor
Effective October 19, 2026, you can drive with more than one passenger provided all other passengers are immediate family
Display the red L sign on the back of your vehicle
Zero alcohol or drugs in your blood when you drive
No cellphones or other electronic devices, including hands-free devices
No driving between midnight and 5 a.m.
