Driver licensing

Book a knowledge test and other driver licensing and ID services

Appointments are required for knowledge tests. For your convenience, we also recommend booking an appointment for services such as licence renewals and replacements as well as BC Services Card and BCID applications and renewals.

To avoid waiting, we recommend that you arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment. When visiting a driver licensing office, masks and physical distancing are voluntary.

Canada Post delays

While the Canada Post service disruption is over, please be aware that there may still be delays in receiving IDs and licences due to the backlog with Canada Post. We appreciate your patience.

Before you book your in-person appointment

You must be a resident of British Columbia to apply for or hold a B.C. driver’s licence.  If you are unsure if you qualify as a resident, please contact us.

Unpaid debt could affect your ability to renew or upgrade your licence. If you have outstanding debt with us, please call Account Services (604-661-2723 or 1-800-665-6442) prior to booking an appointment. For more information about when we refuse to issue a licence, please review the relevant section of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Can't find an appointment?

We may at times be able to serve customers without appointments. At ICBC driver licensing offices (not Service BC centres or driver licensing agents), you can walk in during our normal office hours. However, depending on how busy the office is, you may have to wait for an extended time, or you might not get served that day.

If you would like to walk into a Service BC centre or driver licensing agent, please contact their office directly for their walk-in information.
