Code definitions

Vehicle damage severity codes are entered in the Salvage Management Information System (SIMS) for use in the Salvage Value Inquiry system used by ICBC.

All vehicles declared a total loss are assigned the appropriate vehicle damage severity code on the total loss worksheet. When inspecting the vehicle the estimator marks the severity on each damaged area of the vehicle, using the following codes:

Minor damage: cosmetic only, can be used in future vehicle repairs with minor alterations.

2

Medium damage: requires extensive reworking to be used in future vehicle repairs.

3

Severe damage: damage that includes structural members not salvageable for future repairs.

Extensive rust damage to the area.
