Estimate sound and communication equipment

Steps to complete an estimate on sound and communication equipment.

When this applies

When stolen or damaged sound and communication equipment is claimed, create a separate Estimate or Appraisal or Suffix Identification (ID) for that equipment.

Procedure

  1. Verify the equipment was in the vehicle and permanently attached.

    To verify the equipment

    • obtain receipts or
    • review ICBC images from previous claims.

    If there are no receipts and no photos from a previous claim, then the customer is entitled to the equipment allowance.

  2. Determine whether equipment is still available and obtain price quotes for the equipment from multiple suppliers.
    If the same equipment ... Then authorize this amount ...
    is still available the cost of that equipment.
    Important: No upgrade or substitution of equipment is allowed.
    • is no longer available, and
    • the supplier provides equipment cheaper than the price quoted (less depreciation and betterment) on the Estimate or Appraisal
    the supplier’s quoted lower price.
    • is no longer available, and
    • the supplier does not provide equipment cheaper than the price quoted (less depreciation and betterment) on the Estimate or Appraisal
    the last known retail price of the component, less depreciation.
  3. Complete the Estimate or Appraisal as follows:
    • Enter the most competitive price
    • adjust labour, and select the following in Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE):
      • stereo shop to inscribe installed equipment with claim number and insured’s driver’s licence number, and
      • no substitutions or changes to equipment.
  4. Create a claim note detailing the stolen equipment:
    • make
    • model, and
    • any other details.
  5. Explain the following to the customer:
    • If the equipment is still available then no upgrade or substitution of equipment is allowed.
    • If the equipment is not still available depreciation and/or betterment applies, if applicable.
    • The equipment must be installed by the supplier.
    • The vehicle may be re-inspected, at the estimator’s discretion.
  6. Release the Estimate or Appraisal to the customer.
