Installing your convertible seat — rear facing

Print this checklist and take it with you when you go to install your convertible seat in the rear-facing position.

NEVER place a rear-facing car seat in a vehicle seat equipped with an air bag.
 Seat faces rear.
Ensure harness straps are passing through the slots in the back of the restraint so they are level (or below) the child's shoulders.
Place convertible child seat in back seat. All children 12 and under should be properly restrained in the back seat. In almost all crashes, it is the safest location.
 Adjust to reclining position.
Attach with adult seatbelt and, if necessary, use a locking clip.
Make sure the child seat does not move more than one inch away from the back of the vehicle seat.
Route the seatbelt as per the manufacturer's instructions and ensure the seatbelt is secured snugly.

Harnessing your baby in the seat

Place your baby in the seat and fasten the harness snugly. Only one finger should fit between the harness and the child's collar bone. (Avoid dressing your baby in heavy clothing or bunting bags. Bulky clothing will make it difficult to ensure snug harnessing. In cold weather, put blankets over your baby - after he's been fastened in the seat.)
Raise the chest clip to the level of your baby's armpits.
On each trip, check harness tension and adjust chest clip.
Always check the manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual.
