Tether
Straps
All
forward-facing child restraint systems that meet Canadian Motor
Vehicle Safety Standards are fitted with a tether strap. The tether
strap helps keep the child seat in place during a collision or
sudden stop.
The
tether anchorage hardware must be secured to the vehicle frame.
Vehicles built after 1989 have marked or predrilled and threaded
anchorage slots. Follow the instructions in your vehicle owner's
manual or take your vehicle to your dealership's service department
for further information.
Locking Clips
A
locking clip is a special H-shaped metal clip. Check your vehicle
owner's manual to find out if you need to use one.
Harness Strap Position
When
rear facing, the harness straps should pass through the slots in
the back of the child seat so they are LEVEL or slightly BELOW the
child's shoulders.
When
forward facing, the harness straps should pass through the correct
slots identified on the child seat.
Always check manufacturer's instructions.
Snug Harness Fit
Shoulder
harness straps must be snug so that no more than one finger width
can fit between the harness and your child's collar bone.
Chest Clip
A
chest clip is supplied with some child seats to hold the harness
straps in position on the infant's or child's shoulders. When using
an infant or convertible child seat with a chest clip, raise the
chest clip to the level of the child's armpits.
Strap Adjusters
When
straps are fitted with strap adjusters, double back all harness
straps through the buckle to prevent slipping under tension. With
forward-facing seats, ALWAYS attach the tether strap to the anchor
bolt and tighten to remove slack.
