Getting started:
ICBC provides vehicle licensing and vehicle registration services on behalf of the provincial government.
Getting a vehicle registered
Before you can get licence plates or insurance for a vehicle in British Columbia, the vehicle must be registered in B.C.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
A Vehicle Identification Number is a unique, 17-digit number used to identify a vehicle registered in B.C. If your vehicle doesn’t have a proper VIN, you can apply to get a “B.C. Assigned VIN.”
Specialty licence plates
Specialty licence plates are issued for many types of vehicles and vehicle uses. Find out eligibility requirements and how to apply for 2010 Winter Games, collector, personalized, “prorate” and other specialty plates.
Specialty vehicles
Everything you need to get a collector, modified vehicle or certain other types of specialty vehicles registered, licensed and on the road.
Find out the requirements — and restrictions — for using a snowmobile or off-road vehicle. See whether a vehicle may qualify for farm truck plates.
Rules for low-powered vehicles
Check out the rules for using low-powered vehicles such as motor-assisted cycles, “pocket bikes,” “mopeds,” and more.
Importing a vehicle
Vehicles imported into Canada must meet Transport Canada safety standards. Other requirements may include paying applicable tax or duties.
