Most services at a driver licensing office require you to show valid pieces of identification.

The only documents we will accept as ID are listed below. Avoid delays or making an extra trip! Be sure to bring both types of ID with you.

Expired Identification
Identification documents that contain an expiry date will only be accepted as Primary and Secondary Identification for up to one year after their expiry with the following exceptions:
- Any document issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada must NOT be expired. (i.e. Study or Work Visas, PRC cards, etc.)
- BC photo driver licences and BCID cards expired up to three years may be accepted as identification documents.

Issued by ICBC:
- B.C. driver's licence or learner's licence (must have your photo)
- B.C. Identification (BCID) card (Must not be expired for more than three years. Older cards without an expiry date are not acceptable)
Issued by provincial or territorial government:
- Canadian birth certificate (sorry, a baptismal certificate or certificate of Live Birth is not acceptable)
Issued by Government of Canada:
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Permanent Resident Card
- Canadian Record of Landing/Canadian Immigration Identification Record
- Study, Work, Visitor or Temporary Resident Permit (formerly Minister's Permit).

- Identity Card (Issued by Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to foreign representatives accredited to Canada and eligible members of their family)

- B.C. CareCard (or a government-issued health card from another Canadian province or territory)
- School ID card (student card)
- Bank card (only if applicant's name is on card)

- Canadian or U.S. driver's licence
