Appealing an impoundment
You can ask to have your vehicle released early.
To do this you must apply for a review to the Office of the Superintendent
of Motor Vehicles.
How to apply for a review
- Complete an application form, available at any driver
licensing office. Bring your Notice
of Impoundment and identification
with you.
You must submit the application form within
30 days of becoming aware of the Notice
of Impoundment.
- Submit the application to the driver licensing
office, along with the review fee.
You can document and submit your case in writing
for a $50 fee. Or you can present your case, on a scheduled date,
to an adjudicator. This oral review costs $100.
If the review is decided in your favour, your
vehicle is released.
Company-registered vehicle?
If the vehicle is registered under a company name,
the company owner may apply for a review directly, or through a
designate.
Designates must provide an authorization letter
on company letterhead signed by the company owner.
