RoadStar Package Vehicle Travel Protection
This is good coverage for people who take their vehicles on holidays or business trips. Having your car damaged or stolen while you're travelling can be a major hassle, to say nothing of the extra expenses involved because you're not at home. Travel Protection Coverage reimburses you for extra costs such as hotels, meals, even your transportation home. Travel Protection Coverage offers peace of mind and saves you money.

When you're covered
Vehicle Travel Protection covers costs you might encounter if the vehicle you are travelling in is damaged in a crash, is vandalized, or is stolen while you are on a trip away from home for 30 days or less.
It also covers you if you are involved in a crash with a motor vehicle while riding a bicycle or as a pedestrian while you are on your trip, and you are injured and require medical treatment in a medical facility.
If you have the RoadStar Package, you are covered in the RoadStar Package-insured vehicle as well as any other private passenger vehicle, commercial vehicle with a GVW of 5,000 kg or less, motor home or motorcycle that you own, rent or borrow. If a trailer or camper is attached to the covered vehicle, the coverage extends to the trailer or camper at no extra cost.
What's covered
Your Vehicle Travel Protection will reimburse you for these expenses when you incur them as a direct result of a motor vehicle accident or theft of the vehicle:
- Additional living expenses up to $500 for one or two people, or $1,000 for three or more people or occupants of an insured motor home. This includes lodging, meals, telephone calls and transportation expenses.
- The cost of bringing the insured vehicle back home, up to $750, or up to $1,000 for motor homes. This includes bringing a damaged or recovered stolen vehicle back home for repairs, or sending someone to bring home a stolen vehicle that has been recovered.
- Towing expenses of up to $100, or up to $250 for motor homes.
- Replacement vehicle expenses of up to $500 toward providing substitute transportation for loss of use of a rented or borrowed vehicle. (Loss of Use Coverage provides coverage for the loss of use of your own vehicle.)
- Travel expenses for you to return home by the most direct route, up to $1,500 for one or two people, or up to $3,000 for three or more people.
- Reimbursement of your deductible for a Collision claim if your vehicle is damaged by an insured, identifiable vehicle not insured by ICBC (only if you are not at fault for the crash). In other words, this reimbursement does not apply in case of damage by an uninsured vehicle, or in the case of a hit and run where the at-fault vehicle is not identified.
Who's covered
The RoadStar Package Vehicle Travel Protection covers:
- the person named on the Owner's Certificate to which the RoadStar Package applies
- an assigned corporate driver where the insured named on the Owner's Certificate is the driver's employer, and use of the assigned vehicle is a taxable benefit for the driver under The Income Tax Act (Canada).
- the spouse of either of these persons
- any other persons travelling with them, including non-B.C. residents.
Limits
There is no limit to the number of claims you can make per trip or during any policy period. Each claim is treated separately and for each acceptable claim, full policy limits apply. Each trip must be no longer than 30 days.
If the vehicle is covered by more than one RoadStar Package or RoadsidePlus, you will be reimbursed only under the one package which provides the higher or highest amount of reimbursement.
Similar coverage is available with higher limits of coverage as part of the RoadsidePlus package. Both RoadStar Package and RoadsidePlus provide similar coverage, but at a more economical cost, as that offered in optional Vehicle Travel Protection coverage.
