Vehicle Travel Protection - who, what and how

Who is it for?

Only B.C. residents can buy this coverage, although people who don't live here can be covered. For example, you might want to get coverage for visitors who will be travelling with you.

PLEASE NOTE: You must list the individuals to be covered when you buy the policy. Only those who are named will be covered.

Once you're on the list, though, you're covered if involved in a motor vehicle crash in any vehicle, or as a pedestrian or cyclist.

What vehicles can be covered?

You can buy Vehicle Travel Protection for private passenger vehicles, motor homes, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight [click for definition] of 5,000 kg or less.

The vehicle must be registered and licensed in British Columbia. It can be owned, borrowed or rented.

Camper or trailer covered for free

If the vehicle you insure under this policy is towing a recreational trailer or has a camper attached to it, the protection will also apply to the trailer or camper. There is no added premium for this.

Protecting your discount

Claims made under this policy do not affect your Claim-Rated Scale discount.

How do you prove your costs?

Be sure to keep all receipts for costs you are claiming under Vehicle Travel Protection.
