What Basic Autoplan costs
Annual auto insurance premiums [click
for definition] in B.C. can
vary from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. In very general
terms, the premium reflects the risk ICBC has of paying a claim
for you. There are many things that influence the likelihood of
you being in a crash:
- Where you live
- If you live in an area with more traffic, you have more chance
of being in a crash. Your insurance will cost you more in a big
city than it will if you live where there is very little traffic.
- Rate classes
are based on what you use your vehicle for. A car used only for
pleasure will cost less to insure than one used to drive to work
every day. Because, let's be honest, if you're really driving
for pleasure, you're probably going to avoid rush hour traffic
whenever you can!
- Your driving record
- If you have caused crashes in the past, your insurance will
cost more. Your personal driving record has a significant impact
on your Autoplan premium.
- Additional coverage
- Basic Autoplan gives you the minimum coverage the law says you
must have. But most drivers buy optional insurance for protection
in a wider variety of situations. You have to pay an additional
premium for any optional coverage you buy.
- The vehicle you
drive makes no difference to your premium for Basic Autoplan.
It will affect the premiums on your optional coverage.
