Retrieving your vehicle after impoundment

If your vehicle was impounded for 48 hours or it was recovered after being stolen, you can collect it directly from the impound lot without following these steps.

If your vehicle has been impounded for longer than 48 hours:

  1. Visit an ICBC driver licensing office with required ID
  2. At the driver licensing office, complete a Request for Vehicle Release form, which will be faxed to the impound lot.
  3. Visit the impound lot and be prepared to pay towing and storage fees.

If the date on your Notice of Impoundment says your impoundment ends on a weekend or holiday and you would like your vehicle back soon afterwards, you may complete the Request for Vehicle Release form on the scheduled release date.

If you can’t collect your vehicle

Someone else can collect your vehicle on your behalf. First, visit an ICBC driver licensing office to complete an Owner's Authorization form. The person collecting your vehicle must then follow the steps above and present the form when they visit the driver licensing office.
