Reducing your Driver Penalty Points Premium

Get a reduction on your Driver Penalty Points Premium by giving up your licence for at least 30 days. Give up your licence for one year and the Driver Penalty Point fee will be waived.

Options for reducing your Driver Penalty Points Premium

There are two options available to reduce your premium costs:

  1. You can eliminate your Driver Penalty Points Premium by giving up your licence for one year. Contact a driver licensing office for more information.
  2. You can reduce the premium by giving up your licence for at least 30 days during your billing period.

There are also reductions available to drivers who have been prohibited, suspended or off the road for certain reasons.

Steps to get your reduction:

  1. Go to a driver licensing office and let them know that you would like to turn in your licence to reduce the premium.
  2. When your chosen length of time (minimum 30 days) is complete, call ICBC to discover how much you now owe:
    • From the Lower Mainland: 604-661-2800
    • Toll free from anywhere in B.C.: 1-800-663-3051
  3. Return to have your licence re-issued and collect your licence.
  4. Pay what is owed on your Driver Penalty Points Premium and your fee.

Suspended and prohibited drivers

If you have been suspended or prohibited from driving for 60 days or more, you’re eligible for a DPP reduction. These 60 days must have been completed within the billing period. Follow these steps to get your reduction:

  1. Call ICBC when your suspension ends and discover how much you now owe:

  2. Collect your re-issued licence from your driver licensing office.
  3. Pay what is owed on your Driver Penalty Points Premium and your fee.
