Driver Penalty Points (DPPs) are collected on your driving record through traffic offences. Each offence carries a certain number of points.
Each year we look at the total number of points you received during a 12-month period we call your "assessment period." This period ends five months before your birthday.
Note: Your assessment period may include driving offences during an earlier period which have only recently been recorded on your driving record.
If you collect more than three points on your driving record during the assessment period, you must pay a Driver Penalty Point premium.
If you have to pay a Driver Penalty Point premium, we will send you a bill four weeks before your birthday. This bill will also show all the points on your record.
These examples show when two drivers with traffic offences were billed, and how much they had to pay.
