Change the name on your driver’s licence by going to a licensing office with proof of your new name.

How to change the name on your driver’s licence

If you have changed your name, you will need a new driver’s licence to drive legally in B.C.

To replace your driver’s licence, go to any driver licensing office with:

• Legal proof of your name-change such as
  • a marriage certificate issued by Vital Statistics, a religious organization or a marriage commissioner
  • a divorce certificate (both the married and previous names must be on the document).
• Required ID. These can be in your new or old name.
• Fee to pay for your new licence.

Important: All identification must be original documents. Passports are not accepted.

We accept a photocopy only when it is certified (stamped) as a true copy of the original document by the government agency that issued it.
