Class 5/7 driver's licence Knowledge Test
Before you can get your Learner driver's licence, you will have to take a knowledge test. Before coming in to take this test, prepare yourself as much as possible by:
- studying the RoadSense for Drivers guide, and
- taking our free online practice knowledge test.
There is a $15 fee each time you take the knowledge test.
About the knowledge test
The knowledge test:
- is usually done on a computer at a driver licensing office
- tests how well you understand RoadSense for Drivers (To pass, you'll need to do more than just memorize facts.)
- has 50 multiple-choice questions (You need 40 correct to pass.)
- takes about 30 minutes, but you may take longer, and
- is available in English, French, Arabic, Cantonese, Croatian, Farsi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese

Great! To take the test, go to your nearest driver licensing office.
Please come early!
When you come in to take your knowledge test, arrive at least one hour before closing time. Otherwise, you might not have time to finish.
Do I need to book an appointment?
You don't need to make an appointment for a knowledge test —unless you’re taking the test at a Expressway Driver Licensing Centre.
Knowledge tests are available at these Expressway locations, which are open Saturdays:
- Cloverdale (Clover Square Mall)
- Guildford (Boardwalk Mall)
- Richmond ( Ironwood Plaza )
Note: At these Expressway locations, you must book an appointment for your knowledge test in advance. Please call the Expressway directly to book your appointment.
What do I bring to the knowledge test?
You must bring:
- your required ID (to process your application)
- $15 for the test fee, and
- $10 for your Class 7L photo learner’s licence.
Do I need to bring anything else?
