Class 5/7 driver's licence knowledge test

Summary: How to prepare for—and pass—your driving knowledge test.

Before you can get your learner's licence, you have to take a knowledge test.

The knowledge test is based on the safe-driving guide, learn to drive smart.

There are 50 multiple-choice questions on the test. To pass, you need to correctly answer at least 40.

Getting ready

The best way to prepare for the knowledge test is to

• study learn to drive smart, and
• take our free online practice knowledge test.

What to bring

When you come in for your test, you must bring:

• your required ID
  
• $15 for the test fee (must be paid each time the test is taken), and
• $10 for your Class 7 photo learner’s licence.

If you're under 19

Your parent or a legal guardian also need to come in to the licensing office to sign your licence application.

Ready for your test?

Great! Just go to your nearest driver licensing office at least one hour before closing time. 

You don't need an appointment first, unless you're taking the test at

• Cloverdale (Clover Square Mall)
• Guildford (Boardwalk Mall), or
  
• Richmond (Ironwood Plaza).

After you pass

After meeting all application requirements, you'll get a Class 7 learner’s and enter the learner (L) stage of graduated licensing.
