Book an appointment to apply for an enhanced driver's licence

Find out how to book an appointment for an enhanced driver's licence (EDL), and what you need to bring.

How to book (or reschedule or cancel) 

You must book an in-person appointment, held at one of 16 designated driver licensing offices, to

• apply for your first EDL
• renew your EDL
• replace a lost or stolen EDL, or
• update your EDL because you changed your name, address, or licence class.

All EDL appointments must be booked ahead of time.

Here's what you need:

BC Services card

The combination driver licence / BC Services health care card is not available for EDLs.

If you would like a BC Services health care card, do not make an EDL appointment. Just visit any driver licensing office.

Hours: Available 4 a.m.–midnight Monday to Saturday, and 9 a.m.–midnight on Sundays.

Note: To book online, you must already have a B.C. driver's licence (BCDL), BCID, EDL or EIC. 

If you have not previously held a BCDL or BCID you need to book by phone.

Booking by phone

Call the EDL Customer Line at 1-866-972-6888, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m.

Note: The customer line is unable to provide earlier appointment times than those available on the Online Booking service.

What do I need to bring to my EDL appointment?

Prepare for your appointment using the application checklist.

When you come in for your appointment

• bring all required identification documents, and
• be prepared to answer the questions on this citizenship questionnaire.

Note: if you're under 19, a parent or legal guardian must come with you.

Note: If you are driving a far distance to attend and EDL or EIC appointment, we recommend that you call us before your appointment to confirm what ID and documents you need to bring with you.
