Replace a lost or stolen enhanced identification card

Here's what to do if your enhanced identity card (EIC) goes missing.

If your enhanced identification card (EIC) is lost or stolen, call the EDL Customer Line immediately at 1-866-972-6888.

Important

Due to a Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) change, anyone using a Canadian Citizenship Certificate issued on or after Feb. 1, 2012 as ID cannot apply for or renew an EDL or EIC.

ICBC is working with CIC and hopes to be able to accept this document in the near future. Please check back for updates.

What to bring

When you come in for your appointment, make sure you bring:

your original birth certificate or Canadian citizenship document,* and
one other piece of accepable ID.

*Note: A passport is not accepted as proof of Canadian citizenship.

Found your card?

If you find your EIC after reporting it missing, you

cannot use the card to cross the border, and
should book an appointment to reapply for a replacement EIC as soon as possible.

Important: If you try to use your EIC at the U.S. border while its status on our records is lost or stolen, it will be confiscated.
