Bait Car program

Background

The Bait Car program—funded through the provincial Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and supported by ICBC—has achieved a new level of public awareness with the launch of www.baitcar.com. The success of the website has been phenomenal.

The site features continually updated information on the program along with videos showing actual auto crime incidents, from the time the cars are stolen to when the thieves are arrested.

The website allows the public to see, first hand, how effective bait cars have been. It also explodes the myth of car thieves being just kids out for a joyride.

ICBC has supported the Bait Car program since its launch in Vancouver in September, 2002, by helping develop an award-winning advertising campaign and working with other sponsors to ensure the message that Bait Cars are everywhere is effectively delivered throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Bait Cars: Steal One. Go to Jail.
