Therapy and rehabilitation

Limitations to Accident Benefits coverage

Alternative therapies

ICBC Accident Benefits will NOT reimburse the costs of most "alternative" health care therapies.

Generally, these are defined as practices or interventions that:

• lack sufficient documentation for safety and effectiveness against specific disease or conditions,
• lack a valid scientific base

If you are considering any form of treatment for which you may seek reimbursement from ICBC, please discuss with your adjuster before taking the treatment. Otherwise, you may not be reimbursed for any treatments or medications you receive.

Compensatory damages

In certain situations, you will receive more for therapy and rehabilitation from compensatory damages than you will from Accident Benefits. Remember, to be eligible for compensatory damages, another motorist must be assessed 100% or partly liable for the crash in which you were injured.
