Meeting your adjuster

What's next?

What will my adjuster do after our first meeting?

Your adjuster will investigate the accident details and attempt to assess liability in your crash. He or she will also consult with your healthcare specialist about your recovery. The adjuster will keep in regular contact with you to follow up on any questions you may have and to ensure that all of the benefits to which you are entitled are paid in a timely manner.

How long will it take to settle my claim?

This is a difficult question to answer because many factors may be involved in your claim. Much depends on how you work with us. For example, the faster you provide information that your adjuster needs, the faster we can generally process your claim. But, remember, you can ask your adjuster for a settlement offer at any time.

When will I hear from my adjuster again?

After your first appointment, your adjuster will contact you on a regular, agreed-upon basis for an update on your recovery progress.

You should also feel free to contact your adjuster if you have any immediate concerns. If your adjuster is out of the office, you can ask to speak to the adjuster who takes care of your adjuster's files when he or she is out, or to your adjuster's manager, if the matter is urgent.

Can't work for more than 14 days?

Make sure you contact your adjuster. You may be entitled to additional benefits. Also contact your local Employment Insurance office and find out what you should be doing to safeguard your EI claim for disability benefits.

What can I do if I'm having problems with my adjuster?

When you make a claim we want to make sure you get the best service possible.

If you are unhappy with your adjuster, we advise you to speak to his or her manager. To find the phone number of the claim centre, click here.

If you have other problems during the claiming process and you don't know quite what to do, ICBC has an established fairness process that might be able to help you.
