Anti-lock Braking Systems
The benefit is control
Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) use electronic
controls to prevent the wheels from locking during hard braking.
This helps the driver maintain better steering control, especially
on uneven surfaces and wet pavement.
The main benefit of ABS is that you can
steer around the object that you are heading towards even while
applying maximum brake force.
ICBC studies have shown that anti-lock brakes
are very effective in B.C. winters when roads are most likely to
be wet or slippery. One study of 13,000 vehicles in B.C. showed
that cars with four-wheel anti-lock brakes had 15 per cent fewer
crashes during the winter months.
