Anti-theft device discount

Get a discount on your Comprehensive or Specified Perils premium by fitting your vehicle with a passive electronic immobilizer. Save on your Comprehensive or Specified Perils deductible if the anti-theft device is defeated.

On average, 52 vehicles are reported stolen every day in B.C. We are working to reduce this statistic by encouraging our customers to invest in a passive electronic immobilizer. These devices are effective as they do not rely on you remembering to activate them.

How to get your discount

You can make your vehicle less appealing to thieves - and earn a discount on your optional Autoplan premiums.

To get your Anti-theft device discount, you need a passive electronic immobilizer that cuts off power to fuel, starter or ignition system. The electronic immobilizer must also automatically switch itself into action when you lock your vehicle. In addition, you must have Comprehensive or Specified Perils insurance.

Three main types of vehicle anti-theft devices:

Active vs. passive

All anti-theft devices are either active or passive.

Deductible rebate

You will receive a $100 rebate toward the deductible of your claim if your vehicle is stolen and there is evidence that the anti-theft device was defeated. You will also get the $100 rebate toward your deductible if you have a claim for damage where there is evidence that someone tried to steal your vehicle, but was unable to because your properly installed and activated anti-theft device prevented the theft. You must have Comprehensive or Specified Perils insurance for the deductible rebate.

Unfortunately, motorcycles and trailers are not eligible for the anti-theft device discount.
