Autoplan policies can last from one day to one year. There are different costs involved for each policy length.
We have created different Autoplan policy lengths so all our customers can find something to suit their needs. Most drivers find the annual policy most convenient; you can buy your insurance and not worry about it until next year. Or ask about our monthly payment plan.
Get any of these policies directly from your Autoplan broker.
| Coverage length | Policy type | Usage | Costs |
| One to 15 days | Temporary Operation Permit | This policy is useful when you only need insurance for a short period. Your vehicle might be going for repairs, for an AirCare test or to be sold. | To save money for coverage more than 15 days, you could buy a three-month policy and cancel it when you do not need it any more. |
| Three to seven months | Short-term Autoplan policies | Some customers purchase short-term policies if their vehicle is only used during certain seasons. If you prefer not to pay for an entire year at once, remember you can make monthly payments instead of using a short term policy. | As well as your policy premium, you will pay: 2.5% insurance surcharge* $10 licence surcharge all vehicles except $20 for commercial vehicles over 5,000 Kg GVW |
| Eight to 11 months | Short-term Autoplan policies | Some customers purchase short-term policies if their vehicle is only used during certain seasons. If you prefer not to pay for an entire year at once, remember you can make monthly payments instead of using a short term policy. | As well as your policy premium, you will pay: 2.0% insurance surcharge* $10 licence surcharge all vehicles except $20 for commercial vehicles over 5,000 Kg GVW |
| One year | Autoplan | This is the typical Autoplan policy length. Many customers combine a one-year term with a monthly payment plan. | No insurance or licence surcharges apply |
* The surcharge is a percentage of the annual net premium and is not refundable in the event of a cancellation. Your surcharge will never be more than $100.
Saving money
Figure out how many days you will need a TOP for, before you buy it. Buying one longer TOP will likely be cheaper than buying two shorter ones to cover the same number of days in total.
Similarly, if you are going to need several TOPs, you might save money by buying a three-month policy, and then cancelling it when you no longer need the coverage.
